- Costa Rica doesn't have an army. The Costa Rican army was abolished in 1949 after a 44-day civil war that killed more than 2,000 people. Today it is known as a neutral and peaceful country
- Costa Rica has two national animals, though, surprisingly they are not sloths, monkeys, jaguars, whales, or frogs! The national land animal is actually the white-tailed deer, chosen for its traits that symbolize Costa Ricans. These deer are known for strength, peace, energy, fertility, and prosperity
- Sloths are one of the most popular animals you can spot in Costa Rica. They are lazy creatures that sleep between 15 and 18 hours a day and have the lowest metabolic rates of any mammal. It can take them up to 30 days to digest a single leaf. You can spot them almost everywhere
