General weather Overview
Bhutan’s climate can be classified into three distinct categories
based on geographical location. The Himalayan foothills and the plains in the far south are humid
and subtropical. A moderate climate prevails in the central areas and the Himalayan valleys to the
north. The north of Bhutan is bitterly cold, with some high peaks covered in snow all year.

- Although Bhutan is an impoverished country, it offers free basic education and health care to all its citizens. Education is considered a fundamental human right and is critical to the achievement of the nation's social, cultural, and economic goals. The government does not charge tuition and even offers free education, stationery and textbooks for children in rural areas. The literacy rate has increased significantly in recent decades. English is taught in most schools
- The most interesting fact about Bhutan is that there are no traffic lights anywhere in the country, including in the busiest capital, Thimphu. Surprisingly, however, traffic remains orderly and efficient due to police officers standing in booth-like structures at major intersections to direct and control traffic
- Most surprising are the phallic images. You can find them almost anywhere when traveling across the country, from homes to schools to restaurants. It is important in Bhutanese culture as penises are said to ward off evil spirits and bring good luck to people. Some even believe that hitting a woman with a fake phallus increases her chances of having a child
