General weather Overview
The Netherlands is bordered on the west and north by the North Sea, which has an influence on
the climate. There is a mild maritime climate with continental influences. Summers are often hot,
but not too hot. Winters are also pleasant, with average temperatures around freezing. By the
middle of the year, the cold air from the North Sea has usually reached the coast, so temperatures
are cooler than inland. The influence of the Atlantic decreases the further one gets from the coast.
In the fall and winter, sometimes violent storms pass over the country, dropping considerable
amounts of precipitation. There is no dry season as precipitation such as rain, falls throughout the
year
