General weather Overview
Like all equatorial countries, Zambia has a tropical or subtropical
climate, depending on altitude, with hot, humid, and rainy seasons. There is almost no difference
between the seasons. Daylight hours vary little and the temperature differences between summer
and winter are also smaller. Zambia is almost entirely covered by a plateau, which moderates the
climate and makes the temperature generally acceptable for most of the year.

Fun facts
- The traditional name for Victoria Falls found in Zambia is Mosi-oa-Tunya. Mosi-oa-tunya means the ‘Smoke that Thunders’ and, as you can imagine, Victoria Falls truly lives up to its name. The waterfall is 108 meters in height, double the height of Niagara Falls found in Canada
- There is a huge man-made lake and reservoir that keeps the country sustainable. Lake Kariba is the largest artificial lake in the world and is used for commercial fishing and to provide hydroelectric power to Zambia and Zimbabwe.
- There are a variety of adventurous activities you can try. These include whitewater rafting on the Zambezi, canoeing through national parks to spot wildlife where you can find the Big 5, taking a helicopter ride over Victoria Falls, or even swinging down one of the vast gorges (aptly named 'Gorge Swinging').
